Hesperia Community Schools named Academic State Champion
Hesperia Community Schools recognized for 8^th grade scores

DATELINE : On January 10, 2013 Hesperia Community Schools was announced as an Academic State Champion by Bridge Magazine.

Hesperia Community Schools received a top 10 recognition in the 8^th grade scores category.

Bridge Magazine adopted a new, value-added ranking system this year which measures a school's test scores adjusted for family income.  Family income is often a predictor of a student's academic achievement and essentially, the Academic State Champions are being recognized by Bridge Magazine for over-achievement, rather than achievement.

Jeff Haase, Superintendent of Hesperia Community Schools, stated "We are extremely proud of our entire staff, students and parents.  To achieve at such a high level requires a commitment by the entire school community."

 "This year's Bridge Academic State Champions should all be immensely proud of this accomplishment," said John Bebow, president of The Center for Michigan, which publishes Bridge Magazine. "These schools - whether they are large or small, urban or rural, rich or poor - are leading the way to a better future in our state."

Hesperia High School and Hesperia Middle School are considered reward schools by the Michigan Department of Education! "We applaud the hard work and achievement of the educators and students in our Reward Schools because they are zeroed in on improving learning," said state Superintendent of Public Instruction Mike Flanagan. "We need to instill that goal in so many more schools, in order to help all kids be career- and college-ready and successful in life."

Jeffrey Haase, Superintendent commented, "It is with great pleasure that I let you know that two of our schools have been identified as "Reward Schools" (High School and Middle School), which means we closed the achievement gap between subgroups last year. This could not have been done without the hard work and dedication by our staff."
