We return on Tuesday, April 14th, and kick off Testing Week on Wednesday. Please review the schedule and come ready to do your best!

On Saturday, a group of middle school students, led by Mrs. Troughton and Ms. Frederick, traveled to Caledonia Middle School to compete in out first ever JustWrite competition. We had 7 seventh graders and 1 eighth grader complete in 3, 45 minute writing sessions with only a writing prompt and a genre. We had 4 medalists. Jade Petkey, Mia Alexander, Lilith Siegel, and Marabelle Elenbaas.

They’ve been working around the clock to make March Is Reading Month absolutely legendary in the middle school.
The staff is incredibly passionate about their students’ love for reading, and it shows. This project represents countless hours from a dedicated crew who poured their hearts into this epic vision.
A massive shout-out to Mrs. Troughton, the true Architect and mastermind behind this project. Her brilliance kept us inspired, and her vision brought it all to life! Thank you to every single person who pitched in to make the magic happen.
Check out these behind-the-scenes shots! Get ready, Hesperia... it’s time to read!
Be sure to check in with your kids about some of these fun activities happening in the middle school, as well as other March is Reading Month activities across the district.

A Note from the Counseling Office:
Just a note to inform parents of the upcoming 8th grade field trip to the Newaygo County Career Tech Center on Monday, March 2nd. Ms. Brooke also handed this out to students this week.

History Comes to Life at David C. Outwin Middle School! 🕯️
Our 8th graders took a deep dive into history today as they began their unit on The Diary of a Young Girl by Anne Frank. To help them understand the psychological weight of living in the "Secret Annex," students participated in a 20-minute total silence simulation—mimicking the daily reality of the Frank family while workers were in the warehouse below.
A massive thank you to the Newaygo County Sheriff's Office for their incredible support! We are so grateful to the deputies for volunteering their time to act as a "Secret Police" force. Their participation added a level of gravity and realism that truly transformed the lesson, helping our students feel a fraction of the constant vigilance and fear endured by those in hiding.
This experience led to profound journaling and discussions on empathy, sacrifice, and human rights. We are so proud of our Hesperia Community Schools students for their maturity and willingness to engage with such an important and difficult piece of history!
