The 8th Grade Class at David C. Outwin Middle School, in Hesperia, traveled to The Ford Museum and Greenfield Village in Detroit, on Thursday, May 22, 2025. The students, teachers Mr. Doug Baird and Ms. Kori Hansen, as well as several parent chaperones toured The Ford Museum of American Innovation and Greenfield Village. A huge shout out to The Fremont Area Community Foundation for funding this educational experience for our students. Also, a huge shout out and thank you to Holiday Coach Company for accommodating our transportation needs on such short notice. Our drivers Holly and Leighann were absolutely top notch! What a wonderful learning experience for our students.

A Message From Mrs. Ingell: Parents, This will be my last announcement for this year. I want to thank you for your support. The Middle School students will continue to be working hard in their classrooms and earning the end of year activities that are planned. Students need to also be making good choices and behaving appropriately to earn the activities. Activities for the rest of the year: * Friday, May 30th Baseball tournament and cook out with panther bucks used to buy items. * Wednesday, June 4th is the 5th grade field trip to Grand Rapids Public Museum * Monday, June 9th Half Day, Field Day * Tuesday, June 10th Half Day, Middle School Celebrations Assembly and Field Day, Last Day of School Have a restful and safe summer! A Message from Mrs. Ingell: Middle School students are continuing to work hard in their classes and earn panther bucks! We enjoy offering field trips and end of year activities to our students! In order to participate in these activities, students earn them by working hard in their classes, and behaving appropriately. We want students to be rewarded at the end of the year for meeting these expectations! Sports and Activities: * Tuesday-Middle School Track @ Whitehall at 4:00 p.m. * Thursday-8th grade field trip to Detroit * Thursday- Commencement at 6:00 p.m. * Friday- 6th grade field trip to Camp Newaygo * Friday-7th grade field trip to Kropscott Farm Parents, thank you for all of your support this year! A Message From Mrs. Ingell: The Middle School students will continue to listen to the book "Soar" read to them in their seminar classes. The last incentive for this year will be May 30th with a Baseball Tournament and cook out, where students may purchase items with their panther bucks. There will not be an incentive this week or next, due to Swing Out activities and field trips. The incentives have been a rewarding experience for students this year! Sports and Activities: * Monday-Middle School track meet at Montague at 4:00 p.m. * Monday- Spring Choir Concert at 6:30 * Wednesday-Middle School Conference Invitational at Mason County Central at 4:00 p.m. * Thursday- Middle School Spring Band Concert at 6:30, sixth graders warm up at 6:00 p.m. * Friday-Swing Out at 12:30 I hope all of the mothers out there had a beautiful day yesterday! Mrs. Troughton is the Middle School Teacher of the Year! Mrs. Troughton’s innovative teaching methods, unwavering dedication to her students, and passion for teaching is truly unmatched! She actively engages students and staff alike, encouraging Panther Pride. Her classroom is a dynamic and engaging environment where students are encouraged to become active participants in their own learning. She demands excellence and respect-and she gets it back by giving it out everyday! Congratulations Louise on a job well done!

Last week, a great group of our 8th graders took part in the final Speak Up! retreat of the school year at Camp Newaygo! Accompanied by Ms. Hansen and Mr. Dent, students enjoyed a two-day experience filled with classic camp fun and meaningful lessons in youth philanthropy. Huge thanks to Camp Newaygo for hosting such a powerful opportunity and to the Fremont Area Community Foundation for their continued support. We’re proud of our students for representing Hesperia Middle School and taking steps to positively impact their community! 💙

A Message from Mrs. Ingell: Here is the weekly announcement for this week: Please take the time to thank our teachers this week for all of their hard work and dedication! We are so fortunate to have them! Students in 5th grade will be working on M-Step on Tuesday and Thursday morning this week. Students in middle school will continue to hear the book "Soar" read in their seminar classes. The April Student of the Month assembly will be this Thursday during seminar. The 8th graders will be heading to the Ford Museum in Detroit on Thursday, May 22nd. Students need to arrive at school by 5:45 a.m. to board the charter bus. A permission slip will be sent home with your child—please keep an eye out for it.

Due to a variety of scheduling conflicts and low participation, tomorrow’s middle school dances/activity nights have been canceled. We appreciate your understanding and will look forward to planning future events that better fit everyone’s availability.
